How you record a play on a PianoDisc system depends on the specific hardware control unit installed under your piano. Below are the instructions for the two most common recording methods: using the modern ProRecord / QuietTime interface and using the ProRecord iOS App.

Method 1: Using the Physical Control Box (ProRecord / QuietTime)

If your PianoDisc features a ProRecord or QuietTime control box mounted under the keyboard, follow these steps:

1. Start Recording

  1. Hold the [PLY/REC] (or [REC]) button on the control box.

  2. While holding the button, press a key on the piano to select a memory bank to record into.

  3. The PLY/REC LED will start flashing, indicating the system is in standby mode.

  4. Begin playing. The recording will start automatically as soon as you strike the first key or depress a pedal.

2. Stop & Save

  1. When finished, press the [PLY/REC] button again.

  2. The LED will stop flashing and turn off, confirming that your performance has been stored in the selected bank.

3. Playback

  1. Hold the key corresponding to the saved bank, then press [PLY/REC] to hear your performance played back.

Method 2: Using the ProRecord iOS App

If your PianoDisc system is equipped with Bluetooth MIDI, recording via an iPad or iPhone offers a convenient way to capture, manage, and export MIDI files.

  1. Open the ProRecord / PianoDisc App on your device.

  2. Ensure your device is connected via Bluetooth MIDI in the app settings.

  3. Tap the Record icon in the app.

  4. Begin playing your piano.

  5. Tap Stop when finished, then save and name your recorded song file.

Key Requirements

  • Record Sensor Strip: Recording requires an optical key sensor strip installed under the keys. If your PianoDisc system is play-only (Solenoid Output only without recording sensors), recording from the acoustic keys will not be supported.

  • MIDI Output: If your control unit has a MIDI OUT or USB MIDI port, you can also run a cable directly into a computer/DAW (such as Logic Pro, GarageBand, or Ableton) or an external MIDI recorder to capture the MIDI stream.
